Diabetes medicines: understanding your prescription and follow-up
Diabetes treatment is not the same for everyone. Prescriptions depend on the type of diabetes and your care team’s assessment.
General health information. It does not replace professional assessment.
Different options
Insulin is needed for type 1 diabetes. Different medicines, including insulin, may be prescribed for type 2 diabetes depending on the situation. A medicine’s name alone does not explain the entire care plan.
Ask about use
Ask how to take it, what to do after a missed dose and how to store it. Answers should match your specific prescription. Do not copy another person’s schedule or doses.
Discuss obstacles
Contact your treating team about unwanted effects, questions or difficulty buying a medicine. Bring a list of all products you use. Treatment adjustments require assessment; do not stop or replace medicines on your own.
