Types of medical appointments: assessment, follow-up and specialist care
The reason for your visit helps determine the professional and format you need. Here are some common ways to meet with your care team.
General health information. It does not replace professional assessment.
Initial assessment and follow-up
An initial visit is an opportunity to discuss your concern and health history. A follow-up reviews changes, questions and results since the previous appointment. Organizing that information makes the conversation easier.
General practice and specialists
If you are unsure where to begin, ask the service which professional fits your needs. A specialist appointment focuses on a particular area. You do not have to decide on tests or treatment on your own.
In person or remotely
Some conversations and follow-up visits can take place by phone or video. Other situations require in-person care. Explain your reason for booking and ask whether the proposed format is appropriate.
